After Namami Brahmaputra, Assam Government to hold Namami Barak fest in Oct

May 2 (NL Web Desk): Stressing the need for developing Barak Valley in the same manner in which the government plans to bring about development in the Brahmaputra Valley, the Assam Government is planning to organize a Namami Barak festival on the lines of the Namami Brahmaputra river festival held in April this year. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is on a tour to the Barak Valley, is holding consultations with senior district administration officials and finalise the dates of the proposed river festival.
Announcing this at Hailakandi, Assam PWD Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya told NEWS LIVE that the main aim of the government in organizing the Namami Barak festival is to optimize Barak river as a means of fostering trade, commerce and tourism using the water route.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had earlier announced that the government plans to hold a Namami Barak festival on the lines of the Namami Brahmaputra festival while the latter was being held simultaneously along the Brahmaputra river bank across Assam.
