Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributes appointment letters among 368 permanent principals, 610 graduate teachers in HS schools

May 2 (NL Web Desk): Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Tuesday appointed 368 permanent principals and 610 graduate teachers in provincialized higher secondary schools of Assam at a function in Guwahati. Incidentally, no regular principals were appointed at higher secondary schools in Assam since 1998.
Besides the 368 permanent principals, 344 graduate teachers in Hindi, 166 in Sanskrit and 100 in Arabic, all of them TET passed candidates, were handed over appointment letters by the Assam Education Minister.
Expressing concern over reported corruption in DEEO offices, Education minister Sarma warned departmental officials to desist from taking money to release files and other departmental work.
He also asked principals of higher secondary schools where posts of teachers, especially teaching science subjects, are currently vacant to publish advertisements as soon as possible so that students do not face problems in the wake of non-availability of teachers.
The Assam Education Minister also announced that the government will provide free text-books to higher secondary students from next year besides asking teachers to lay more emphasis on sports and other extra-curricular activities.
On the other hand, Education Minister Sarma also chagrined a woman teacher who apparently fell asleep while he was delivering his lecture.
