Massive blaze guts shanties at Ambari, Guwahati; property worth many lakh reduced to ash

May 3 (NL Web Desk): A massive blaze gutted around 40 houses in Ambari locality of Guwahati Tuesday night as the blaze reduced property worth many lakh to ash. There was, however, no loss of lives with fire tenders working swiftly and dousing the blaze.
The fire broke out at the SK Bhuyan Road around 7:45pm Tuesday and soon spread to other houses located in the complex. The situation turned serious after as many as 15 LPG cylinders went off, threatening to spread the blaze to nearby buildings.
However, fire tenders that were rushed in within a few minutes after the blaze started were able to douse the flames within a very short span of time.
More than forty families were staying at the locality as tenants and questions are now being asked as to who had rented out the premises to these families.
Meanwhile, Assam Finance, Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site of the devastating fire today and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10,000 to each of the forty families who have lost their life’s savings in the blaze.
