Assam Assembly ratifies State GST Bill

May 11 (NL Web Desk): The Assam Assembly Thursday ratified and passed ‘The Assam Goods & Services Tax Bill, 2017’ on the final day of the special assembly session after the bill was moved in the Assembly by State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Assam thus became the ninth State to have passed the State GST Bill that will now be sent to the governor for his assent, paving the way for its rollout from July 1.
Prior to the passage of the bill, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke of the main highlights of the bill and claimed it will greatly benefit a largely consumer State like Assam.
“The one-nation-one-tax GST Act will greatly benefit a consumer State like Assam,” Finance minister Sarma said in the assembly when the bill was taken up for discussion before being passed by the assembly.
He also announced that the historic legislation will end the check gate culture besides improving and streamlining the taxation system.
