Central Govt opposes triple talaq in SC

May 11 (NL Web Desk): The central Government Thursday opposed the practice of triple talaq in Supreme Court and maintained that it opposes the regressive system and wants to fight for gender equality and justice.
The apex court fixed the next hearing in the case on May 15 and Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi will reportedly argue the matter on that day.
The top court also observed it would examine whether the issue is fundamental to religion or not.
Meanwhile, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) counsel Kapil Sibal told the court that since triple talaq comes under the Muslim Law Board, the top court, therefore, should not interfere into it.
