Ahead of Ambubachi Mela, Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flags off bike road show, launches social media campaign

May 17 (NL Web Desk): The Assam Tourism department has put in place several new measures in and around the Kamakhya temple ahead of the upcoming Ambubachi Mela. From launching an intensive campaign on social media to bettering facilities for lakhs of devotees who visit the Kamakhya temple during the four-day fair, Assam Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a slew of measures that would be put in place for smooth conduct of the fair.
Launching a bike road show as part of the campaign to further popularise and promote the Ambubachi Mela, Tourism, Finance and Health Minister Sarma said several eminent personalities would be invited to the four-day event beginning June 22 while adding that efforts have been made to put the Kamakhya temple and Ambubachi Mela in the world stage.
The bike road show comprises three bikers who will carry out a campaign tour across the country over a period of 37 days and spread the message about Ambubachi along the length and breadth of the country. Banners and glow signs will also be put in place outside major airports and railway stations, Sarma said, while laying stress on the importance of cleanliness during the fair period.
Meanwhile, public sector oil giant Oil India Limited (OIL) will partner the Tourism department and spend Rs 25 crore for upkeep and other measures concerning the internationally-famous temple.
