On a sudden visit to Jakhalabandha police station, Forest Minister Pramilarani Brahma quizzes arrested poachers

May 20 (NL Web Desk): Assam Forest Minister Pramilarani Brahma Friday night paid a sudden visit to Jakhalabandha police station where six arrested poachers were being kept after their arrest on Thursday night. The Forest Minister interrogated the arrested rhino poachers during which they made some sensational disclosures.
Rek Ali, one of the arrested poachers, admitted to his involvement in rhino poaching in the past and claimed before Forest Minister Brahma that he had sold a rhino horn for Rs 27 lakh at Dimapur, Nagaland’s commercial hub, after killing the big beast inside the Kaziranga National Park.
The arrested poacher, incidentally, was a resident of Bandardubi where the government had carried out an eviction drive against illegal settlers, most of them believed to be Bangladeshi nationals, and was earlier arrested by police and had even served a jail term.
Incidentally, Jakhalabandha Police had arrested six dreaded rhino poachers on Thursday night along with arms and ammunition. Police said the arrested poachers had entered Kaziranga with the intention of killing pachyderms and then making good their escape after axing off the horns.
