Exclusive: How cows from Assam are sold in double rates in Bangladesh!

June 5 (NL Web Desk): Amid the raging debate on cow slaughter and the government launching a crackdown on illegal slaughter houses across the country, rampant smuggling of cattle, particularly cows and bulls, continues from Assam to Bangladesh through the Indo-Bangla border using the Dhubri route. Thousands of cows and bulls are smuggled to Bangladesh from Assam and other northeastern States where they are sold in double their market rates in Assam.
The cows are illegally smuggled to the neighbouring country after they are crossed over through the Gangadhar river. The border is open and there is no fence along the riverine area along the brder.
Interestingly, the unabated smuggling of cattle has been taking place since many years, or in fact, since decades and that there are allegations of some powerful people, including some politicians, backing the illegal trade.
In fact, the cattle smugglers also attacked a BSF trooper who was on duty and was trying to stop the illegal cattle trade.
