Silapathar violence & vandalism incident: Police file charge-sheet, submit case diary in court

June 5 (NL Web Desk): Silapathar Police Monday filed the first charge-sheet in connection with the incident of violence and vandalism at Silapathar in Assam’s Dhemaji district on March 6 this year. A total of forty-two case diaries were submitted in court while charges have been framed against a total of 55 accused, including a juvenile, for their role in the incident of violence and vandalism.
The main accused in the case are Subodh Biswas, president of a little-known linguistic minority organization named Nikhil Bharat Bengali Udbastu Samanway Samitee (NiBBUSS), his accomplice Subhas Biswas, Sahadev Das and Beni Madhav Rai. While Subodh and Subhas Biswas were arrested from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, Sahadev and Beni Madhav were arrested from Siliguri.
On the other hand, 14 accused have been charged under the Arms Act since they were in possession of sharp weapons at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, the bail applications of Subhas Biswas, Subodh Biswas, Sahadev Das, Beni Madhav Rai and the other accused were turned down by the Dhemaji first class magistrate’s court today following which they were once again remanded to judicial custody for 10 days.
