Three ULFA(I) militants killed in gun-battle with security forces in Nagaland’s Mon district; Army Major martyred, auto-rickshaw driver also killed

June 7 (NL Web Desk): Three ULFA(I) militants were killed while a Territorial Army Major martyred and another civilian — an auto-rickshaw driver — killed in a shootout with security forces at Lappa Lempong village in Mon district of Nagaland around 1am Wednesday.
While the identity of the three militants killed in the encounter is not known so far, the slain army officer has been identified as Major David Manlun of the 164 Brigade of Territorial Army who was leading the operations based on inputs regarding the presence of militants in the area bordering Myanmar.
Rajendra Shah, the civilian killed in the gun-battle, was the driver of the auto-rickshaw (bearing registration NL-04F-0005) and was taken by the militants with them to transport rations for the militant group.
There were around a dozen militants and the rest of them escaped under the cover of darkness. No NSCN(K) militant was killed in the shootout.
Security forces have intensified operations in search of other rebels who could be operating from the area bordering Myanmar.
