Most wanted Naga rebel leader SS Khaplang dies in Myanmar

June 10 (NL Web Desk): Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang, more popularly known as SS Khapland or Baba, chairman of the NSCN(K) and one of the most-wanted rebel leaders of te Northeast, died at a hospital in Takka, Myanmar, on Friday evening. The wanted rebel leader had been unwell for sometime and passed away following diabetic-related complications at the age of 77.
Born in 1940 in Waktham village near Myanmar’s Pangsau pass, he formed the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) with Isak Chishi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah in 1980 with the greater objective of forming a greater Nagalim after unifying all Naga dominated areas but split in 1988 and formed the NSCN-Khaplang.
The NSCN(K) entered into a ceasefire with the Government of India in 2001 but walked out of the framework in 2015 since talks it was not invited by the government for talks.
He was not well for sometime, suffering from several ailments before breathing his last on Friday evening.
