Five die in killer Guwahati flash floods

June 15 (NL Web Desk): The death toll in Tuesday’s killer Guwahati deluge has risen to five with three more deaths reported in flash flood-induced incidents on Wednesday.
A person hailing from Dibrugarh was drowned after he fell into the big drain near Jonali locality along the RG Baruah Road. The matter came to light on Wednesday when the body of Pintu Das, who had come to Guwahati only a couple of months ago, was recovered at the Bahini rivulet. On the other hand, an octogenarian woman, identified as Chinmoyee Chakraborty of Anil Nagar, died after she could not be taken to hospital following the flash floods and deluge.
The fifth person who died in Tuesday’s deluge is Deben Nath whose body was recovered from the Silsako Beel near Satgaon. Nath, an employee of Guwahati Raj Bhavan, slipped and fell from a bamboo bridge while he was returning from office Tuesday evening.
Two persons, including a Class VII student, were electrocuted to death after they came into contact with an electricity transmitting wire in front of the Assam State Zoo yesterday evening. Fourteen-year-old Pashan Kalita, a student of Guwahati-based Maria’s Public School, cane into contact with an electricity transmitting wire while another person named Anowar Hussain died trying to save the student.
