Mentally challenged youth thrashed by moral policing mob in Guwahati battling for life at GMCH

June 15 (NL Web Desk): In another shocking incident that highlights how people take up law into their hands, a mob stripped a person off his clothes and then thrashed him black and blue at Lalganesh in Guwahati over a minor incident. The person, identified as Anowar Hussain, his family members said, is mentally challenged. He is currently battling for his life; undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
What is even more appalling is the fact that while people were attacking Anowar and thrashing him like anything, a team of Fatasil Ambari Police that was present there did nothing to save him from the mob that was on a moral policing spree.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening but came to light today.
“A woman fell off from her scooty after the two-wheeler stroke past my husband. That was the only provocation for the mob to strip and assault my husband,” Anowar’s wife said, and added that the police, rather than saving her husband from the attackers, took away her husband’s smartphone and money he was carrying with him.
Police swung into action only after the matter was highlighted by the media and have so far detained five of the attackers while four others are currently on the run.
