Assam BJP MLAs to sit on dharna to protest deprivation of local unemployed youths in railway jobs

GUWAHATI, July 7 (NL Web Desk): Ruling BJP leaders, including three Assam MLAs, have threatened to sit on a dharna over what they alleged was deprivation of local unemployed youths in railway jobs in the State.
BJP leaders and activists, led by Tinsukia MLA Sanjay Kisan, Digboi legislator Suren Phukan and Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, have expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of reservation of jobs for unemployed youths of Assam in the railway department and have sought the immediate intervention of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the issue.
“We met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today and raised the issue of absence of reservation for unemployed youths of Assam in railway jobs in the State. Local youths should be given first preference. We have sought his immediate intervention. And if no action is taken by the Railway department, we will be forced to sit on a dharna,” Suren Phukan said.
The BJP MLAs also expressed their displeasure over the manner in which Rajen Gohain, Union Minister of State for Railways, was handling the entire issue, more so considering the fact that he is an elected lawmaker from Assam.
NEWS LIVE had earlier reported how applicants from other states were preferred to local unemployed youths in railway jobs in Assam.
