GUWAHATI, Sep 17: Some very good news for the people of Assam. Assam Finance, Health, Education and Tourism minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the Sarbananda Sonowal government is committed to work for the greater interests of the people of Assam.

In an exclusive interview with NEWS LIVE’s Chief Managing Editor Syed Zarir Hussain in his talk show ‘Prekhyapat’, Sarma said the government will implement the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for State government employees from April next year.

“We will implement the 7th Pay Commission recommendations and government employees in Assam will get enhanced wages from April next year,” the Assam Finance Minister said.

Claiming that steps are being taken to rejuvenate the Health sector that had worsened in the past two years, Sarma said things would improve by the end of the year. He also announced seven new medical colleges would be constructed in Assam in the next five years.

“The health sector will be in good shape in the next couple of months, hopefully by the end of this year. On the other hand, construction work of four medical colleges will begin on the first four days of January next year. We also hope to construct another three medical colleges, i.e seven new medical colleges in the next five years,” he added.

On the other hand, the Assam Finance Minister said several plans are in the pipeline and that they would be initiated in a phased manner.
