Power-drunk Assam cop threatens college employee with dire consequences over minor incident

GUWAHATI, Jan 9 (NL Web Desk): In another incident highlighting the brazen display of power by a section of men in khaki, a power-drunk Assam cop threatened an employee of Veterinary College, Khanapara with dire consequences after brandishing his service revolver.

Mridul Kumar, attached as a PSO to the wife of Kamrup deputy commissioner Vinod Seshan, entered into an altercation with Veterinary College employee Nareshwar Baishya after the latter’s two-wheeler brushed the sides of the vehicle the DC’s wife and the PSO were travelling. The police officer dressed in plain clothes then got off the vehicle, physically assaulted the Veterinary College employee and then threatened him with dire consequences, brandishing his service revolver at Baishya’s forehead.

“He started assaulting me physically literally for no reason. He also threatened me with dire consequences after brandishing a gun on my forehead,” Baishya said.

A hue and cry was raised by fellow employees of Veterinary College after which the police was called. Although Mridul Kumar was held after the incident, Nareshwar Baishya and his colleagues doubted whether the errant cop would be brought to book.
