Sarbananda Sonowal is powerless, running a ‘Khichidi Sarkar’: Ex-CM Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Jan 11 (NL Web Desk): Former three-term Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi Wednesday launched another blistering attack on the central and the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam government claiming that the two governments were pursuing anti-people policies. The former Assam chief minister singled out Chief Minister Sonowal in particular claiming he doesn’t have any power and can’t even expand his ministry according to his own free will.

“Sonowal has no real power. He does what the central leadership tells him to do. Let alone other issues, he can’t even expand his ministry on his own free will,” Tarun Gogoi said.

The former Assam chief minister further accused the government of failing to translate into reality promises the BJP made ahead of the assembly elections. Going a step further, Gogoi termed the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam government a “khichidi sarkar” (rice porridge government) since most of the ministers and MLAs had changed allegiance to join the BJP.

“What can I say about this government? It’s a khichidi Sarkar! Many ministers and MLAs had shifted allegiance to join the BJP. Even the chief minister is not an original member of the BJP. What can you expect from this government,” he said.

Gogoi also criticised the central government over the demonetisation policy claiming once again that the poor are facing the brunt of the new monetary policy.
